Conclusion
TrackIR is a technically good device for view control by head movements. The driver software runs without any problems and has a lot of possibilities for individual settings. Nearly all current racing and flight simulations support the TrackIR enhanced mode, so there won't be any compatibility problems. Technically I can fully recommend TrackIR, but there is the question whether this view control has any use for racing simulations. If you take flight simulations the use is obvious, as you have enough time to look around in the cockpit and take a look at the environment – the view control increases the "reality feeling" a lot. Concerning racing simulations you'll get a lot of different opinions about TrackIR. Some drivers really like TrackIR and they are used to hold the head straight while racing. Other drivers, like me, just cannot get used to it and prefer to look to the sides by just pressing a button at the wheel. When you drive in a real simulation every tenth-second counts, you just don't have the time to look around a lot. Also from players who are driving in the EPS league I've heard quite different opinions. So if you have enough money for the TrackIR, buy it and try how it works – just for the new
gaming feeling the costs are worth it.
