4Players: Will there be some areas in which the player has neither the flashlight nor a big gun and has to sneak around carefully?

Frozenbyte: Nope. Shadowgrounds is an action game and we wanted to keep it like that. We thought about some stealth and sneaking parts but ultimately decided to leave them out.

4Players: How about Boss fights? Do you need a certain strategy to fight with the Bosses or can you also just fire away?

Frozenbyte: All of the boss fights have a strategy that will help and kill the boss quicker. But if you’re really persistent, you can kill a boss just by shooting. You just need a lot of ammo and health, then.

4Players: Are there side quests in the final version with which the player can get big extras?

Frozenbyte: No. We actually had some of these in the game but like some other features, we felt that they didn’t fit in with the rest of the game – fast-paced action and story-driven missions.

4Players: Shadowgrounds seems to be a short game. How long will it take the players to see the end?

Frozenbyte: The "magic number" seems to be around 10 hours for our test players, although some have spent a bit longer with the game. There’s a similar trend in other action games, too, so I think Shadowgrounds gives your monies worth, easily.

4Players: What are your plans for an online mode? Are there deathmatch and coop-battles?

Frozenbyte: Shadowgrounds co-op is only for the same computer. We wanted to make an online multiplayer mode but Internet/LAN support requires a lot more time. That said, this is a feature

4Players: Do you plan to enrich the game with additional content? Is there a level editor or the possibility to make mods?

Frozenbyte: Additional content is a good question but it would be very hard to do that since Shadowgrounds is story-driven after all. So the answer is probably no.

We have an in-house editor but it’s not going to be released with the retail game. It’s simply too hard to use and all the buildings would have to be made in a professional modelling program. We may release the editor later anyway but I won’t promise it. Mods are not possible.

4Players: When is Shadowgrounds going to be released?

Frozenbyte: The release date in Germany is in late October. German players are the first in the world to get to play Shadowgrounds, so we are very excited to hear their comments. What we have heard so far has been positive!
