Wo war J. Allard auf der E3? Werkelt er etwa schon am "Xboy"? War der Gizmondo gar der Prototyp? Will Microsoft den "iPod-Killer" bauen?

Nein, alles scheinbar nur heiße Luft , die von Buchautor Dean Takahashi per Blog in die Welt gebracht wurde, als er behauptete, dass ein Teil des Xbox-Teams bereits ein Handheld konzipiert.

Die Gerüchte, die daraufhin die Runde machten, wurden jetzt offiziell aus dem Hause Microsoft dementiert. Nord- und Osteuropachef Neil Thompson gegenüber MCV UK :

"We’re not even thinking about that at the moment. Handhelds, in the way you would think about a handheld like PSP? No.”

Allerdings liest sich das nicht wie eine direkte Absage, wenn man "at the moment" und "in the way" als bewusst offen gehaltene Variablen interpretiert. Aber noch steht die Dementi-Phalanx geschlossen. Auch Roger Moore erteilte den Kollegen von Joystiq ein Handheld-Dementi und betonte, dass das Spielen im Mobiltelefonbereich noch eine Zukunft haben könnte:

"The cell phone at its current structure... as they evolve now. [Pulls phone out.] This is a smart phone from HTC. You start getting this level of functionality -- you know the deal -- you've got the same thing. You've got 16 by 9 aspect ratios, you've got pretty decent screens, I look at this and I think, "geez, you could probably get things on the capability of Genesis or the old days on this pretty well. I will never be able to play things like this. I just can't do it. I also prefer to use the soft key pad because I can go faster with the stylus. But yeah -- the Chairman said so. The Chairman says so, believe me. I haven't been at Microsoft long, but I know when the Chairman says so, things happen."

Oder schluckt Microsoft am Ende gar Nokia, um sich dem Mobil- und Handheldmarkt zu nähern? Roger Moore bewundert jedenfalls die Hartnäckigkeit der Finnen im NGage-Bereich:

"I have to admire them for persistency."
