Die für die "Game Critics Awards 2016" (die offiziellen E3-Awards) nominierten Spiele stehen fest. Insgesamt 40 stimmberechtigte Publikationen haben sich auf die Kandidaten geeinigt, aus denen dann später die besten Spiele der E3 2016 auswählen werden sollen. 47 unterschiedliche Titel wurden nominiert. Die Gewinner der Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2016 werden am 5. Juli 2016 bekannt gegeben. Die meisten Nominierungen (fünf) entfielen auf Battlefield 1. Viermal wurden Dishonored 2: Das Vermächtnis der Maske und Horizon: Zero Dawn für Awards vorgeschlagen. Jeweils dreimal für Preise nominiert sind Absolver, Sea of Thieves, Titanfall 2 und The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Da Death Stranding, Destiny: Rise of Iron, God of War, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Prey und Spider-Man (PS4) nicht angespielt werden konnten, durften sie nicht für Preise vorgeschlagen werden.
