Es ist soweit: die Mehrspieler-Plattform Gamespy ist endgültig Geschichte. Seit gestern sind auch die rund fünfzig betroffenen EA-Titel vom Netz, darunter Klassiker wie Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Crysis 2 und Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. Der Publisher bietet nach wie vor keine konkrete Lösung an, um den Multiplayer aller Spiele zu retten - nur einzelne Titel wie z.B. Star Wars Battlefront 2 konnten durch einen Umzug auf eine andere Plattform gerettet werden (ign berichtete ).

Der Einzelspieler-Modus bleibt von der Gamespy-Abschaltung unberührt.   

Meldung vom 11.Mai 2014:

Auch allerlei ältere Spiele von Electronic Arts sind von der Abschaltung der GameSpy-Multiplayer-Dienste betroffen, darunter u.a. Battlefield 2, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Crysis, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 und Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. Laut EA sollen die GameSpy-Multiplayer-Dienste am 30. Juni offline gehen (bei anderen Herstellern ist von Ende Mai die Rede) und wie es mit den betroffenen Titeln weitergehen soll, ist bislang unklar. Der Publisher ist offenbar auf der Suche nach Möglichkeiten und zieht ebenfalls Community-Lösungen in Betracht, um die Online-Funktionen dieser Titel in Zukunft gewährleisten zu können. Aber abseits von den bestehenden technischen Hürden möchte der Publisher zu diesem Zeitpunkt keine konkreten Maßnahmen ankündigen.
