I'll give you a bit of advance explanation about this - i think it's mainly good news... i'll explain in point form because it's step by step how we came to this point.

1) Eric has updated most of the base meshes anyway - cars have changed shape a little and look better - in some cases this already made the old skins not fit perfectly.

2) The GTR race versions of some cars like XR and FXO needed a wider top mapping because of the wide wheel arches. Our system forces them to share a mesh so that things like the roof and light section remain exactly the same as the base models. Sharing a mesh also means sharing mappings - so some more skins have got "broken" because of this.

3) Our beta testers are testing the new CMX viewer right now and they pointed out that sometimes it's hard to line up mappings when going from top to side or from top to front, so it became clear that the only way to fix this is to make the front mapping exactly the same width as the top mapping (in the mapping AND on the skin). Also the side mappings should be the same length as the top mapping. This makes it better for skinners, allowing them to make higher quality skins, more easily, with pixel-perfect alignment.

4) Well there were a couple remaining that still worked but it seemed a pity not to fix the remaining ones to be consistent with the new mappings, so we made this final decision that all should be updated to have the new style of mapping. And if we didn't do it now while we could, then the situation would only get worse.

So... in short, we have better cars and they needed better mappings, and we couldn't really stand in the way of progress.

I think a lot of old skins can be updated reasonably easy, with some moving and scaling of a couple of parts of the skin and a little touching up.

Anyway we have updated the base skins to look really nice, the beta testers are discovering all the small flaws and touching up the base skins as well. I do hope that we can release the S2 CMX viewer in less than a week from now.
