Sony hat den Fehler in dem mittlerweile zurückgezogenen Firmware-Update 4.45 identifiziert, der dafür sorgen konnte, dass die Konsole nicht mehr startete oder nach dem Einblenden des PS3-Logos hängenblieb - laut dem Unternehmen war aber nur eine "kleine" Zahl von PlayStation-3-Konsolen betroffen. In der kommenden Woche (27. Juni) soll ein weiteres Firmware-Update nachgeschoben werden, welches die Probleme aus der Welt schaffen soll - inklusive einer Anleitung zur Installation für betroffene Systeme.

"We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 (ab 399,99€ bei kaufen) software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week. A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience. (...)
