4Players: First of all, please introduce yourself to our readers!

Daniel Miller: My name is Daniel Miller, I'm an Englishman living and working in France . I've been working for Nevrax for the last 4 years and, because Nevrax is a small company, I have two separate roles. I'm both the company's technical director and the producer of the upcoming Ryzom expansion: The Ryzom Ring.

4Players: How was the feedback you received on The Saga of Ryzom? Which part from Atys made players cheer and which didn't?

DM: The first and most obvious thing that has gone down well with our players has been the open skill system. When  you log into Ryzom you really have that choice of "so what do I want to do today?"  "Hmm..  maybe I'll take a break from hunting and try my hand at crafting or foraging for a while, or maybe I'll go looking for a group who needs a healer...".  Because your skills progress as you use them, you can turn your hand to something new at any stage of the game, profiting from the wealth, stats and equipment that you have already built up.

The second major point is the item crafting system.  All of the coolest kit in the game is made by player crafters using raw materials retrieved by player foragers. This makes foragers and crafters hugely important and makes the foraging and crafting skill trees all the more worthwhile to investigate.

Last, but by no means least, there's the graphical quality and Ryzom's unique look and feel. Immersion in this new and totally organic universe is a pure delight.

4Players: What do you think is the secret that makes The Ryzom Ring special?

DM: The Ryzom Ring is all about giving power to the players. There's no other MMO out there that lets players design and run their own adventures or run their own territories annexed to the main game world. The Ryzom Ring is unique and, we think, very exciting, as it paves the way for a completely new branch in the MMO genre.

4Players: Is it possible for gamers to create anything he or she imagines (e.g. a Starship Troopers scenario with lots of bugs (in the form of insects))?

DM: The Ryzom Ring provides a great deal of freedom within the confines of the landscapes and bestiary of Atys. Ryzom's bestiary contains a wide variety of hostile giant insect-like creatures called Kitins, so it's absolutely possible to put together a Starship Trooper-like assault scenario with wave after wave of incoming bugs if one so-pleases.
