LFS: TrackIR 3 Pro Test (englisch)
Simbin GTR

The simulation GTR from Simbin also supports TrackIRs enhanced mode. Compared to LFS there is not much of a difference in terms of the settings and how to use it, expect that it's more fun to take a look around in the highly detailed cockpits. The TrackIR software already has presets for GTR, so you can start directly without the need to customize your settings. GTR has the downside that the movement if a bit limited. While you can even look to the back in LFS, this is not possible in GTR. You can only look through the side windows, what is realistic if you consider the car types simulated in GTR. In reality a FIA GT driver also isn't able to turn around completely as the movement of the head is limited by the seat, helmet and harnesses.

The feeling is similar to LFS. It it really fun to drive and take a look at your opponents. The downside is that it's easy to miss the braking and entry points as a beginner.

MS Flight Simulator

I'm starting my flight at Frankfurt/M airport with a Bell helicopter over the snowy-white Rhein-main area. Despite the snowing and low clouds the view is incredible and I have a look at the beautiful environment. TrackIR realms show its advantages at Flight simulators. In this case the view control with your head really makes sense and it makes fun to take a look around in the virtual flight reality. So for all virtual pilots, TrackIR is really a good investment as it improves the gameplay a lot.

Vector Expansion

The new "Vector Expansion" is an add-on for TrackIR, consisting of a cap with four reflective points and an unlock key to enable the new functions in the driver software. With the vector expansion it's possible to move the ingame view not only to the left/right and up/down (X- and y-axes), but also forwards and backwards (z-axis). With this a true 3-dimensional view control is possible for the first time. As the forward/backward movement of your head isn't interpreted as a turning of the head, the whole control is more precise. The current LFS version doesn't support the Vector Expansion yet, but it is likely that support will be added for the S2 release.

GTR, as well as some flight simulators, already support the Vector Expansion, so it's useful if you own one of these games. With racing games it's the question weather this expansion is really useful. As you normally only use the horizontal movement to look to the sides, the forwards/backwards) movement doesn't make much sense here. But the interpretation of the movement gets more precise because of the increased amount of reference points. Thanks to this there aren't any disturbing movements anymore.
