Die Gewinner der Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2016 stehen fest. Der Hauptpreis "Best of Show" ging an The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Auch in den beiden Kategorien "Best Console Game" und "Best Action/Adventure Game" sicherte sich das Spiel von Nintendo die entsprechenden Auszeichnungen. Das neueste Abenteuer von Link war für drei Preise nominiert und konnte auch alle drei Kategorien für sich entscheiden. Battlefield 1 war für fünf Preise vorgeschlagen und erhielt nur eine Auszeichnung, und zwar im Bereich "Best Action Game". Dishonored 2: Das Vermächtnis der Maske, Absolver und Sea of Thieves gingen leer aus.

Insgesamt 40 stimmberechtigte Publikationen durften die besten Spiele der Messe auswählen. Da Death Stranding, Destiny: Rise of Iron, God of War, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Prey und Spider-Man (PS4) nicht angespielt werden konnten, durften sie nicht für Preise vorgeschlagen werden.
