Matt's Take on Blu-Ray and HD-DVD
Great article on Blu-ray and HD-DVD. I was curious which one do you think will be the replacement for DVD?
Matt responds: I believe Blu-ray will become the successor to today's DVD format. There's simply too much going for the medium. It's backed by 13 of the world's biggest electronics and computer companies. Sony will probably make Blu-ray a household name single-handedly with the release of PlayStation 3. And major movie studios like Sony, Columbia, TriStar and MGM have already pledged support for the platform.
Just this morning, in fact, mega studio 20th Century Fox joined the Blu-ray Disc Founders (which will be known as the Blu-ray Disc Association in about a week) and pledged further support for the next-generation medium. With Fox on board, Lucasfilm could follow and the Star Wars franchise with it. Fox also owns major movie licenses like Independence Day, Cast Away, X2: X-Men United, The Day After Tomorrow and Planet of the Apes.
Really, not a bad start for the Blu-ray disc format. Not bad at all.
And by the way, there's always the possibility that Revolution will use Blu-ray. After all, Matsushita/Panasonic is a founding member of the Blu-Ray Disc Association and Nintendo is very closely tied to the company.
(wer sich wundert, das ganze hat mit der fertigstellung des chips insofern zu tun, dass, falls microsoft die blu-ray technologie nutzen wollte, ein release der konsole ebenfalls erst 2006 möglich wäre (unter momentanen umständen)
